Chapter 6

After an awkward goodbye, Mr. Pettifor’s driver takes me home. I wish I hadn’t confessed my firsts to him. I vow to myself that what happened tonight with Mr. Pettifor will be the last time. I need to make that very clear to him tomorrow. What do I think about Amelie servicing him? What an ignorant question. Perhaps she’s servicing him now. I weep at the thought.

As I lay in bed, my mind spins its web of fantasies. In my make-believe world, I belong to Mr. Pettifor – not just from 9-5, but 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In my dreams, I can have him anytime I want and I can speak freely about anything. In my fantasy, I know all of his secrets and he knows mine. I eventually fall asleep, Mr. Pettifor’s voice lulling me and praising me…

Bella, my beautiful princess, it’s you that I want.

I wake early again and pack up all of the dresses. I call for Mr. Pettifor’s driver and have him assist me in loading the box of gowns and jewelry. When we get to the office, Amelie is already working on Mr. Pettifor’s schedule. I’m impressed by her promptness and I have no doubts she will make a fantastic personal assistant. She smiles when I approach her and her sweet disposition touches me. This is exactly who Mr. Pettifor needs - someone light-hearted; someone who is willing and trainable. With her lack of inhibition, she will also make an excellent sexual partner for him. My stomach does a flip-flop at the thought and my heart soon follows suit.

“Mr. Pettifor is already here, Ms. Darcy. He asked me to send you in when you got here,” she says cheerfully.

“Thank you, doll face. This box is for you. Please take care of everything in it. Each of these gowns holds very special memories for me. The smaller box contains jewelry. I will let Mr. Pettifor decide what he wants to do with it as it’s all very expensive, but I thought you could at least pick out one item you would like me to hold back for you,” I tell her, handing her the box.

Her eyes light up and she looks like a child on Christmas.

“Oh, Ms. Bella, you’re so kind. Thank you,” she says and her eyes gloss over.

“Why the glossy eyes?” I ask.

“I don’t know. I hardly know you, but it just seems so wrong for you to be leaving. I would’ve really liked to have gotten to know you better,” she sniffs.

“I’m not going to the moon, silly girl! I’ll only be a phone call away if you have any questions. And maybe we can get a drink sometime,” I suggest, rubbing her back.

She nods happily and digs through the box of diamonds, sapphires and rubies. She finds a lovely yet understated diamond tennis bracelet and I place it on her delicate wrist.

“You look beautiful, my sweet, Ms. Davidson. Simply beautiful.”

“I’ve never had diamonds before,” she replies, dreamily.

“Well, get used to it.
